Understanding VAT Charges and Refunds When Purchasing Through Paddle

Modified on Thu, 10 Sep at 3:36 PM

When purchasing a product through Paddle, our trusted third-party payment processor, it's important to be aware of the additional Value Added Tax (VAT) charges that may apply. These charges depend on the country you're purchasing from. This article covers VAT charges and refunds for purchases made via Paddle.

Paddle is registered to handle VAT payments in specific regions, with rates charged under the "Standard Digital Goods" tax category. You can find more on these fees in our Terms and Conditions, under "Fee Charges." Full VAT fee specifications by country are also available on Paddle's dedicated page.

Requesting a VAT Refund

If you're VAT registered, the easiest way to avoid being charged VAT in the first place is to add your VAT number at checkout, or to your account details, before making a purchase.

If you've already completed a purchase without providing your VAT number, you can still request a refund: add your VAT number to your VAT receipt, and Paddle will automatically process the refund. This typically appears in your account within 3–5 business days. If you don't see the refund after 5 working days, or run into any other VAT issue, contact Paddle's support team directly at help@paddle.com and they'll guide you through it.

Staying informed about VAT regulations helps you make informed decisions and avoid unexpected expenses.
